When we started this project, our goal was simple—take away some of the huge obstacles the kids in the village of Lan Cun face every day, so that they can focus on what's important.
In 2012, your donations built a cafeteria and kitchen at the primary school to serve students who had to walk many miles to get to school, or who simply could not afford to eat, and to give the teachers living at the school a proper place to cook. Today the cafeteria and kitchen are used by everyone at the school as well as members of the community, every day.
When the donations did not stop, we decided to help even more students, this time, promising girls who could not otherwise afford to continue their high school education. After a search and application process led by the teachers and administrators who knew them best, in fall 2015, five female students were able to enroll in high school with their tuition, room and board, books, and uniform fees paid in full through their graduation.
Because we have accomplished what we set out to do and more, we at the Lan Cun Education Project are suspending our fundraising efforts. On behalf of the village, we thank you for your generosity and your belief that people can actually make a difference in each others' lives. Together, we were able to greatly improve the lives of the students and teachers in this village on the other side of the world.
There is always more to do, of course, and we will continue to help the village in other ways in the future. We encourage you to continue supporting efforts to improve access to education for all people around the world. Thank you again for your optimism, trust, and support.
